| Over the past six months, library staff have been busy at work on a Strategic Plan for 2003-2005 to guide University Libraries as it continues to provide excellent service and positions itself as the scholarly information gateway of first choice for the UC community. The plan, which includes the mission, vision, values, strategic directions, and action steps for University Libraries, is in the final editing process and soon will be published. This winter, library staff participated in open sessions in which they identified the top strategic directions and action steps for University Libraries to focus on during the next six months. After voting that the immediate focus should be on the strategic directions of Quality Service, Staff Development, and Organizational Effectiveness, task forces will be formed and charged this spring with implementing specific action items aimed at achieving the strategic directions. Recognizing that strategic planning is an ongoing process, an oversight committee will be established to monitor the progress of implementation and to assist the task forces in their work. Additional updates on the strategic planning process will follow in future issues of Source.
