E-News @ Your Library: www.libraries.uc.edu

Melissa Cox Norris, Public Information Officer, melissa.norris@uc.edu

This fall University Libraries made changes to its Web site to incorporate UC’s branding standards and address user concerns garnered from user testing performed on the Web site. Testing looked at issues such as navigability, usability, and ease of finding resources. While most users found the site easy to use and informational, they did identify a few areas for improvement such as the use of mouse-overs on the main page and terminology. The revised site, located at <www.libraries.uc.edu>, addresses these issues by eliminating the mouse-over and simplifying library terms with more user-friendly words.

Other highlights of the site include:

  • Separation of the Services/Information section into two distinct areas, thus making it easier to find how to use such services as E-Reserves or to look up a library’s hours
  • New gray information boxes located on most pages where additional information on topics such as copyright, plagiarism, and obtaining help can be found
  • Changes to make the site accessible to those with disabilities, which includes endorsement by “Bobby,” a software tool designed to test for compliance with existing accessibility guidelines
  • New photographs showcasing University Libraries
  • A revised Library Tutorial, available at <www.libraries.uc.edu/help/library/index.htm>, that teaches new users how to use the library
  • A section on how to donate gifts to University Libraries, located at <www.libraries.uc.edu/information/giving/index.html>.
