Thomas Scherz, IT Analyst 2 in the Library IT Department, was awarded the Fall 2010 Quality Service Award for his efforts to make work processes and systems more effective and for increasing productivity through innovative solutions – all with an “infectiously positive, upbeat attitude,” said his nominator. Thomas’ creation of a script that automatically pushes full-package delivery of software updates to individual workstations allows staff to perform multiple concurrent updates themselves with just a click of the mouse. This frees Library IT staff from visiting each computer workstation to update software. It also allows library staff to perform updates at a time that best fits their work schedule. Another example of Thomas’ efforts that make work processes more efficient is his work on iLib, the Libraries intranet system. Thomas, in conjunction with his Library IT colleagues, led the effort to configure iLib to meet the needs of the Libraries work environment. He serves as chief trainer and supporter for library staff on how to use it. The Quality Service Award recognizes the fine work of the University of Cincinnati |
