| Beginning in early 2008, students will be able to study, meet with a project team, or work on a computer any time of the day or night on the 5th floor of Langsam Library in a 24/7 computing and study facility called UCit@Langsam. UCit@Langsam will include:
During regular operating hours when all areas of LangsamLibrary are open, access to UCit@Langsam will be via the 4th-floor main library entrance. At all other times, UC students will enter the facility by swiping their UC identification cards via the 5th-floor lobby entrance. UCit@Langsam is a joint project of University Libraries and the University of Cincinnati Information Technology (UCit) that combines the expertise and experience of both staffs to coordinate and increase access to information and technology. The facility will address students’ great desire for 24/7 access to key academic-support resources – specifically, library and computing resources. In two recent University of Cincinnati surveys, more than 3,000 students expressed their strong need for Langsam Library to be open 24 hours a day for access to quiet study space and computers. With the establishment of UCit@Langsam, UCit and University Libraries anticipate opportunities to collaborate with other university units that provide technology services to students and faculty such as the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CET&L), the Faculty Technology Resources Center (FTRC), and the Student Technology Resources Centers (STRC) located in both Langsam Library and the Steger Student Life Center. By working together, these new partnerships Work has begun on UCit@Langsam with an anticipated opening date of winter quarter, 2008. Updates on the progress of UCit@Langsam will appear in future issues of Source. |
