Conference Participation

Pam Bach, Head of Langsam Library’s Info Commons, James Krusling, First-Year Experience Librarian, Barb Macke, Reference and Instructional Services Librarian, and Jane Carlin, Head of the Design, Architecture, Art and Planning Library, presented at the 14th National Conference on Students in Transition, November 4-6, 2007, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their presentation was titled “Pathways to Success - The Academic Library as a Center for Knowledge, Student Engagement, and Leadership.”

Jane Carlin, Head of the Design, Architecture, Art and Planning Library, received the International Delegate Award from the Art Libraries Society of the United Kingdom. The award supported attendance at the Society's annual Conference in Cheltenham, England, which focused on the Arts & Crafts movement in Great Britain.

Barb Macke, Reference and Instructional Services Librarian, and Jane Carlin, Head of the Design, Architecture, Art and Planning Library, presented at the 27th Annual International Lilly Conference on College Teaching held at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Their presentation was titled "Contextualizing Information in the Digital Age."

Degrees Earned

Paul Dozier, Equipment Applications Specialist in Library Technology Services, earned his Master of Information Science Systems in December 2007 from UC’s College of Business.

David Sandor, College-Conservatory of Music Library Circulation Supervisor, earned his Master of Arts in History from UC in June 2007, and was awarded a Zane Miller prize for his research paper “‘At Work for the Remaking of the Negroes:’ The Harriet Beecher Stowe School and the Debate about Separate Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio.”

Librarian Goes to Washington

On June 26, 2007, the American Library Association sponsored a Library Day on the Hill where several selected librarians from across the country presented displays to Congress in the Gold Room of the Rayburn Congressional Office Building. Debbie Tenofsky, Head of Reference and Instructional Services, was among the presenters. Tenofsky discussed with members of Congress and their staff how UC Libraries are implementing gaming into library instruction, thus merging information with entertainment. In addition to the presentations, approximately 2,000 librarians visited their Congress people to voice their views on America’s libraries.
