CECH Library Open for Fall 2008

Each quarter, a librarian or staff member is selected to receive the Quality Service Initiative (QSI) Award to recognize the fine work of those in University Libraries who strive to provide the best service to library users as well as to colleagues. The award is presented three times per year. Below are the two most recent recipients.

David Sandor

David Sandor, Circulation Supervisor at the Gorno Memorial Music Library (CCM), was awarded the Winter Quarter 2008 QSI Award for his sincere dedication to assisting users and working with library student workers.

David’s commitment to quality service exemplifies the QSI Standards of providing the highest level of service that exceeds the expectations of library users. To improve the user experience with the CCM Library, David developed new procedures for searching and tracking missing and lost items from the collections. David shows a high degree of initiatve when undertaking such projects.

In working with student workers in the CCM Library, David sets high standards for himself and his employees. He developed training procedures, checklists, and documents that provide student workers with the information they need in order to do their best work.

Before coming to work at the CCM Library in 2004, David held a joint position in Langsam Library’s Circulation Department and the Serials and Electronic Resources Department. Prior to UC, David worked at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

David’s strong commitment to quality service has been, and will continue to be, a great asset to the CCM Library and to library users throughout the UC community.

Inge Goldschmidt

Inge Goldschmidt has been awarded the Spring Quarter 2008 QSI Award for her work on the Technical Services Team in the Serials and Electronic Resources Department in the Walter C. Langsam Library.

In her role as serials and electronic resources acquisitions specialist, Inge is responsible for acquiring print serials and the myriad of online research resources that University Libraries provides its users. To demonstrate the enormity of Inge’s job and her contribution to library collections, in 2005-2006 UC ranked third of 113 university libraries in the Association of Research Libraries in expenditures for electronic materials, and 27th in expenditures on current serial subscriptions.

Inge demonstrates a high degree of organizational and communication skills in her daily routine of working with people from various library departments, including selectors, accounting personnel, receiving staff, administration, and catalogers to acquire materials for the libraries. Starting in University Libraries in 1978, when acquisitions of library materials relied on telephones, typewriters, card catalogs, and the kardex, Inge has readily adapted to the virtual environment of today’s workplace. She handles a massive amount of price quotes, orders, claims, and complicated questions regarding technical services with efficiency and always follows through to a resolution in a timely fashion.

Inge’s dedication and collegial approach to her work has contributed to quality service throughout the University of Cincinnati libraries. Congratulations, Inge.
