The Architecture and Urban Planning Collection
Produced by the DAAP Library, the collection contains a variety of images from many sources. Included are images of urban planning projects from China, Africa, Europe, and the United States. Many images represent research projects of the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning faculty and students. Images of the built environment are from the Cincinnati Preservation Association, professional and amateur photographers, and from students and staff at the University of Cincinnati. Part of the continuing effort to document pedagogy at the University of Cincinnati, this collection contains courses and syllabi, curriculum development, annual reports, writing competition records, reviews, and assessments in the English Department in recent years.

With Jazz by Bobbie Ann Mason. Monterey, KY: Larkspur Press, 1994.
This short story by Mason was originally published in The New Yorker in 1990 and is printed here in a fine press edition by Gray Zeitz of Larkspur Press and illustrated by LaNelle Mason. Noteworthy about this copy (no. 9 of 50 copies) is the beautiful artist’s binding created in 2006 by Cincinnati bookbinder Gabrielle Fox. Hand tooled in blind and gold leaf with colored leather onlays in the goatskin binding, this book was selected for the 100th Anniversary Exhibition of the Guild of Book Workers which toured from 2006 to 2007. Other special bindings by Fox are in the holdings of the Archives & Rare Books Library, including a commissioned binding of D.H. Lawrence’s 1930 published poem, “The Triumph of the Machine” in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Blegen Library.

Portraits by Barry Moser. North Hatfield, MA: Pennyroyal Press, 2006.
Published in an edition of 60 copies (of which this is no. 5) with an introduction by Ann Patchett, Portraits is a collection of 161 wood-engraved images of artists, architects, writers, poets, and composers that Moser has used in his book work over his long career. Arguably the preeminent bookman of our time, Moser is noted for his illustration work for editions of classic poetry and prose, contemporary fiction, and children’s books. This volume complements an excellent collection of Moser titles in the rare books holdings.
