Spotlight on Service: Libraries to Increase Wireless to 100% |
|
The grant will allow the Libraries to add new access points, eliminating zones with spotty or no wireless coverage. Additional wireless access points will also allow users to maintain access seamlessly as they move throughout a library. Student use of laptops and other types of mobile devices in the Libraries has increased dramatically in the past two years. Connection data provided by UCit shows that even with the current access points, there can be up to 200 users connected over the course of a day to one library wireless access point alone. Increasing access points will provide much needed connectivity for library users who will have greater access to the vast array of library resources, including online articles and databases, the Library Catalog, and OhioLINK, wherever they are within the Libraries – in the stacks, in a group study room, or in central public areas. Complete 100% wireless coverage throughout the UC Libraries is scheduled to be available Spring Quarter.
