Conference ParticipationSteve Marine, Assistant Dean of Special Collections and Executive Director of the Winkler Center, represented the UC Libraries at “An Age of Discovery: Distinctive Collections in the Digital Age,” a forum co-hosted by The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), October 15–16, 2009, in Washington DC.
HonorsGabrielle Fox, Contract Conservator in the Preservation Services Department, was listed in Cincinnati Magazine’s 2009 BEST OF THE CITY issue as Best Bookbinder. Mark Palkovic, Head of the Albino Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library, entered his miniature book, Amos Ives Root and the Wright Brothers in an international competition. It was accepted and will be on permanent display at the Miniature Book Museum in Baku, Azerbaijan. Mark met museum curator Zarifa Salahova a few years ago when she and a group of other museum curators visited Cincinnati on a State Department Tour. Janice Schulz, University Records Manager and Archives Specialist in the Archives and Rare Books Library, has been designated a Certified Records Manager by the Institute of Certified Records Managers, an international certifying organization under the Association of Records Managers and Administrations. Janice is one of only 12 people in Ohio with this distinction. Personnel NewsTed Baldwin has been appointed Head of the Engineering Library, effective January 1, after serving as Interim Head of the Engineering Library since May 2009. Steve Marine has been appointed Assistant Dean of Special Collections. Holly Prochaska has been appointed Head of the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library, effective January 1, after serving as Interim Head of the Library since January 2009
Jennifer came to UC from the Yale Center for British Art at Yale University where she worked as the Assistant Librarian. She received her Master’s of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Jay Sinnard, Operations Manager of the Student Technology Resources Center, attended the 2009 Government Video Expo in downtown Washington DC on December 1-3, 2009. At the expo, Jay tested new media products such as tapeless camcorders and heatless lighting kits. While in Washington, Jay had the opportunity to meet Congressman Steve Driehaus and received a behind-the-scenes tour of the Capital Building.
