Giving Back: Linda Graviss & Ron Frommeyer

Strengthening the core of the University of Cincinnati motivates two UC retirees to contribute annually to the UC Libraries.

Linda Graviss, who retired in 2008 as Associate Vice President for Financial Services after 30 years at UC, describes the Libraries as “one of the major backbones of this
whole institution.”

Linda, who earned a BS in Accounting ’86 and a MPA ’02, said she spent countless hours at Langsam Library doing research—“I loved the feel and smell of being in a Library.” When she worked on her graduate degree, there were more online collections, but she still came to the library.

In addition to supporting the Libraries’ Annual Fund, Linda designated a second gift this year toward improvements to the College-Conservatory of Music Library, located on the sixth floor of Blegen Library. She explained, “I wanted to support one of the priorities of the Libraries as well as this facility in this magnificent old building.”

Linda said she enjoys attending the Libraries’ annual events, including the Edible Books Festival and Authors, Editors, and Composers, which recognizes faculty for their literary and artistic creations, and takes time to walk through the libraries occasionally.

Ron Frommeyer

Ron Frommeyer characterizes the UC Libraries as “the heart of the University” since they support the teaching, learning, and research of faculty and students.

After earning his library science degree at Case Western Reserve University, he worked at the UC Libraries for a combined total of 20 years primarily as Head of Acquisitions and assistant to two deans. When he retired in 2003, he returned a few years later as a volunteer in the Preservation Services Department where he binds music scores and pamphlets.

“The UC Libraries are a top notch library system and they need all the support they can get to continue to purchase library materials, online databases, and the latest technology,” Ron said. “I feel it is important to support the Libraries since they are so important to the university and to society.”

Besides making annual gifts, Ron has included the Libraries in his estate planning through a bequest. “I wanted to make a long-term commitment to the Libraries,” he explained.
