A Note from the Dean

On March 9th we celebrated the newly renovated and relocated Albino Gorno Memorial Music (CCM) Library with a reception attended by university administrators, College-Conservatory of Music students and faculty, and library staff, donors, and friends. The event began with a rousing trumpet fanfare by CCM students. CCM Interim Dean Frank Weinstock spoke about the crucial role the CCM Library plays – comments echoed by Richard Lauf, Chair of the Libraries’ Campaign Leadership Committee and avid supporter of the Libraries. CCM Assistant Professor Matthew Peattie led his students in a stirring Gregorian chant from the Spanish Antiphoner, a 16th-century choir book housed in the CCM Library.

For those of you who have not yet had the occasion to visit the CCM Library in its new location on the 6th floor of Blegen Library, I encourage you to do so as it truly is a spectacular space. The library includes a computer and listening lab, group study and microfilm rooms, areas for study and reading, and open stacks for the library’s collections of books, periodicals, scores, and recordings. The centerpiece of the renovated library is the handsome, high-ceiled reading room with historic chandeliers and attractive built-in oak bookcases.
