During his notable conducting career, including serving as maestro of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra from 1970 to 1977, Thomas Schippers collected about 1,200 musical scores, concert programs, tapes, correspondence, books, and other items. Eventually, the collection will be housed in the Archives and Rare Books Library and the College-Conservatory of Music Library where it will be available for study and research. While the Lauf gift is a great start in making this collection available, funds are still needed for cataloging, processing, and preserving the materials in the collection. We invite other interested music lovers to join in supporting this worthy project in order to enhance the world of music by providing access to this unique collection of Mr. Schippers. Please contact Peggy Wolf in the Library Development Office at (513) 556-0055 for more information. |
