A generous gift from Roger (BSEE ’56) and Nancy Schlemmer has enabled the Engineering Library to enhance user services through technology with the purchase of two scanners and a screen projector.
The first scanner is in the Info Commons area located just outside of the library entrance. The second device is for scanning microfiche and can be found at the back of the library. With this scanner, users can scan a report and convert it to a PDF file for printing, send it to a computer via e-mail or network connection, or download it onto a zip disk, or burn it onto a CD.
The Schlemmers’ gift also was used to purchase a new projector for the Engineering Library’s electronic classroom. This room is used for library instruction on the most effective use of engineering resources, as well as for presentations, workshops, and classes led by College of Engineering students and faculty.
Visit the Engineering Library in Baldwin Hall to take advantage of these new technologies.
Journal Backfiles
University Libraries extends appreciation to Michael Valentine (BSEE '73) and Roger and Nancy Schlemmer for their extremely generous contributions that enabled the purchase of Elsevier backfiles of electronic journals from their starting date through 1994. Elsevier journals cover numerous subject areas including engineering (Mr. Valentine and Mr. Schlemmer are both graduates of the College of Engineering). For more information on these backfiles, see “Recent Acquisitions”.
