Conference & Association Participation
Ted Baldwin, College of Applied Science Librarian, attended the Special Libraries Association Leadership Summit in January. The conference, entitled “Leading to Succeed: Developing Skills for Your Future,” featured a keynote address by Gary Heil, a renowned speaker on service quality and change management. Sessions covered included: leading teams, running effective meetings, developing leadership at various career stages, envisioning the future, and enhancing creativity. Ted is currently Chair-Elect and 2006 Conference Planner for the Chemistry Division of SLA.
Paul Cauthen, Assistant Music Librarian, has been elected to the Governing Board of the Music Library Association (MLA). Founded in 1931, MLA is the primary professional organization for music librarians and music librarianship in the United States. Paul’s two-year term on the Board began February 20. He is also serving his final year as chair of MLA’s Subcommittee on MARC Formats.
New to the Library
Susan Banoun joined University Libraries in January as the Serials and Electronic Resources Cataloging Unit Head.
Sherry Hornberger is the new Library Technical Assistant at the Equistar Technology Center Library.
Tracie Jewett joined University Libraries in December as the Government Documents and Reference Department Assistant.
Katie Kallmeyer joined University Libraries in January as the Student Supervisor in Langsam Library’s Info Commons.
Mindy Pennington is the new Head of the Equistar Technology Center Library.
Hyacinth Tucker joined University Libraries in November as Binding Processor in the Conservation and Binding Department.
Publishing
Scarecrow Press has published the second edition of Acquiring and Organizing Curriculum Materials: A Guide and Directory of Resources by Gary Lare, Head of the Curriculum Resources Center.
Awards & Honors
 At its annual Grand Conclave, held in September 2004 in Bath, England, the Miniature Book Society awarded its Anderson-Yarnell Award (pictured on right) to Mark Palkovic, Head Librarian, College-Conservatory of Music Library. The award is given to honor significant contributions to the Miniature Book Society.
