During the summer, University Libraries prepared for the start
of the new academic year with renovation projects to improve
learning and research environments for library users.
Classics
Library:
In collaboration with the Classics Department,
the front entrance of the Classics Library received a face-lift.
The circulation area was remodeled to allow for a more direct
route to the stacks and the circulation desk was enlarged.
A sound arrier was placed between the circulation area and
the quiet reading room. In addition to the functional upgrades,
the appearance was vastly improved with more modern furniture,
including Pompeian red chairs.
College of Applied Science Library
(CAS):
University Libraries opened its fourth Info Commons with the
addition of the CAS Library Info Commons consisting of 16 computer
workstations. Not only does this new facility put technology at the
front door of a library that serves technology programs, but it also
frees up room to create a new book area and to move the microform
collection to a more appropriate location. This project was
a joint effort of University Libraries and the College of Applied
Science and was chiefly funded by an ITIE competitive grant
award.
Curriculum Resources Center (CRC):
In order to improve access to the
computer lab, a bank of 18 computers previously located in room 609
at the rear of the library was moved to the production lab space adjacent
to the circulation desk, transforming the lab into an Info Commons
offering a greater level of service. The new proximity to the
library’s central
service point allows for increased instructional, informational,
and technical support. With the creation of the InfoCommons,
room 609 now houses an additional 10,000 education materials
once located in Langsam Library. Virtually, the CRC received
an upgrade with redesign of its Web
site.
Geology-Mathematics-Physics
Library:
In June, the Mathematics Library, previously located
in Old Chemistry, was relocated and incorporated into the Geology-Physics
Library in Braunstein. The new consolidation provides improved
library services and space for mathematics faculty and students.
The entire matematics collection is in place and a new Info
Commons was developed to serve all geology, mathematics, and
physics users! In addition, new carpet was installed, new signs
were hung, and the facility received a fresh coat of paint.
The library’s
Web site also received a makeover that incorporated the mathematics
collection and an updated design.
The UC
community is enouraged to “check-out” these
improved facilities. |
