The 9/11 Commission Report: Final Report of the National Commission
on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States
An independent, bipartisan commission created by congressional
legislation under President George W. Bush in late 2002 was
chartered to prepare a full and complete account of the circumstances
surrounding the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The
Commission was to review preparedness for terrorist attacks
and the immediate response, as well as provide recommendations
designed to guard against future attacks. This publication
is a result of the commission’s work.

Le Machine. Volume nuovo et di molto
artificio da fare effetti maravigliosi tanto Spiritali quanto
di Animale Operatione. BRANCA, Giovanni.
This first edition of this classic work on
technology contains the first published representation of an
action-powered steam turbine. Le Machine is one of the classic
early works of technology published in the West. Its author,
Giovanni Branca, is among the outstanding writers on the subject
and actually stands out by virtue of the steam turbine - the
very engine that would drive the Industrial Revolution - the
importance of which he was the first to acknowledge in print.

Arabic Manuscript Prayer Book. Istanbul, 1789.
This beautifully illustrated and bound book is a handbook of
rituals and prayers, along with selections from the Koran
for pilgrims to Mecca and Medina. The binding is a traditional
Islamic design in gilt maroon morocco with a front flap.
The illuminated manuscript contains two full-page colored
miniatures of Medina and Mecca with ornamented initials and
marginal decorations. Marginal notes are in the hand of scholar
Mahmud of Istanbul. This prayer book complements other rare
copies of the Koran in University Libraries’ holdings
and represents an important item not only in the holdings
on the history of the book, but also in the growing collection
of examples of how book designers and artists approach sacred
texts.
