Tracy Rebstock Awarded Quality Service AwardTammy Bachtal |
Tracy Rebstock, circulation student supervisor in Langsam Library,
was completely shocked and surprised to be named the Fall Quarter
recipient of the University Libraries’ Quality Service
Award.
Tracy’s job supervising student workers in Langsam’s Circulation Services Department brings back fond memories of her own experience as a student worker in the library’s Multimedia Services Department – a job that started her library career and her tenure at University Libraries. Her passion for helping users was evident from the beginning and led Pam Bach, coordinator of Langsam’s Info Commons, to hire Tracy as a peer mentor in March 2002. Tracy became a full-time University Libraries’ employee in December 2002. However, her earlier experience as a library student worker serves as a constant source of motivation. Tracy hires, trains, and supervises student assistants, as well as manages the student budget, runs payroll and student statistic reports, and organizes shifting and signage for most of the stacks in Langsam Library. Tracy’s commitment to the library student worker experience is evident as she volunteers for various library committees and initiatives aimed at students, such as New Student Orientation and the Student Wage Task Force. She also shared her student supervisory experience with Ohio colleagues when she presented at this year’s Academic Library Association of Ohio conference. As her nominator explained, “Tracy shows exceptional performance as she works to provide quality encounters at the desk and ensure that the books are shelved accurately and in a timely manner.” Circulation Department Head Arlene Johnson and other Circulation staff agree that, “Tracy has demonstrated time and again in her individual work, in her supervision of student assistants in the department, and in her work with colleagues on various library committees and groups that she is committed to a high level of quality service. Her exemplary quality service efforts reflect so very well on both Circulation Services and University Libraries.” The Quality Service Award recognizes the fine work of University Libraries’ staff who strive to provide the best service to both library users as well as to colleagues. The award is presented three times per academic year. |
