The Dahlman Collection
Melissa Cox Norris, Director of Library Communication, melissa.norris@uc.edu

Stanley M. and Beverly Hall DahlmanDr. Stanley M. Dahlman, retired provost of the Germantown Campus of Montgomery College and 1955 alumnus of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences, has donated his outstanding collection of Celtic materials to University Libraries .

According to the gift appraisal, the depth and scope of this collection, along with the rarity of the early works included makes it virtually impossible to replicate today. The collection of 1,200 volumes of books and journals contains major scholarly works for the study of Celtic history and literature from the Middle Ages to modern times. Highlights of the collection include:

  • The History of Wales by William Warrington (1788)
  • Caradoc’s 1812 History of Wales, which includes two folding maps
  • The journal Bibliotheca Celtica: Register of Publications Relating to Wales and the Celtic Peoples and Languages produced by the National Library of Wales and covering the years 1911-1938.
  • The journal Archaeologica Camrensis by the Cambrina Archacological Association from the 1850s thr 1987.

“We are honored that Dr. Dahlman chose the University of Cincinnati as the home for his valuable collection,” said Victoria A. Montavon, dean and university librarian. “His generosity will greatly benefit scholars both at UC and around the world.” Dr.

The Stanley M. Dahlman Collection of Celtic Studies is available for study and research and can be accessed through the Library Catalog.
