The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture (London; New York: Phaidon, 2004).
The only resource of its kind, The Phaidon Atlas provides articles on outstanding works of architecture built around the world since 1998. The atlas contains over 7,000 photos, plans, elevations, and cross sections, as well as text and data for each building, plus a cross-referencing system to track work by architects in different regions of the world.

Mammals from the Age of Dinosaurs: Origins, Evolution, and Structure by Zofia Kielan-Jaworowska.
This 700-page book thoroughly covers all aspects of the anatomy, paleobiology, and systematics of early Mesozoic mammalian groups. The text is greatly enhanced by several detailed maps and line drawings.

Hydrostaticae Dissertationes by Paolo Casati. (1695).
This first edition is unique in that there are only seven other libraries that own the paper version. The book describes a series of hydrostatic experiments and principles and includes information about thermometers and barometers. There are also numerous references to Galileo, Guericke, and Castelli.

New in Archives and Rare Books

Hamilton County, Ohio Burial Records, Vols. 1-9/CD-ROM (Bowie, MD: Heritage Publishing).
These CDs, available on the Archives & Rare Books Library’s reading room work station, contain the records of Hamilton County cemeteries, including the Vine Street Hill or German Evangelical Protestant Cemetery. The data provided are the first and last names of the deceased, place and date of birth and death, age, date of interment, marital status, and names of kin. When available, the row, section, and lot are listed.

Frankenstein or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Illustrated by Barry Moser. (West Hatfield, MA: The Pennyroyal Press, 1984).
This fine press edition of Shelley’s classic novel contains exquisite woodcuts by Barry Moser, the preeminent bookman of our time. The volume is one of a limited edition of 350 and contains the extra set of illustrations in a portfolio. It is a wonderful addition to the library’s holdings of Moser’s works, and is an excellent example of how book artists and designers approach technology, the sacred, and the profane in society and literature.

Bobbie Sterne Papers, 1961-2000. 100 boxes.
The records of Bobbie Sterne, elected to Cincinnati City Council in 1971 and the first female mayor in Cincinnati from 1976-1980, provide a very rich source on every aspect of Cincinnati history and politics during the 1970s and 80s. In particular, urban development and planning, neighborhood activism, race relations, and cultural change are well-documented. The collection includes correspondence, reports, studies, minutes of commissions and boards, and other materials.

New Online Resources

Elsevier E-Journal Backfiles
University Libraries and the Medical Center Libraries have collaborated to purchase Elsevier backfiles of electronic journals from 1994 back to the year each journal began. This arrangement provides UC users with online access to the full publishing runs of hundreds of journals from 20 subject collections, including computer science, organic chemistry, psychology, and more. Each subject collection contains numerous journals, for example: business, management, and accounting, 68 titles; chemical engineering, 38; medicine and dentistry, 288; and social sciences, 142. Access to the backfiles will display seamlessly when searching for Elsevier journal titles covered by this purchase (search titles via www.libraries.uc.edu/research/articles/text/index.html). Access to recent content (1995 to the present) is available through OhioLINK’s Electronic Journal Center.

Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985
This digital archive can be used to search the complete digital edition of “The Times” (London) to retrieve full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page of the newspaper. The facsimile of the entire newspaper is captured, including all articles, advertisements, illustrations, and photos.
