Using the Alienware PCs and software, UC students have created a variety of movies in the STRC. Foreign language classes, for example, used the editing software to recreate scenes from famous movies, acting the parts in the foreign language they were studying. Advertising faculty often assign students to create a 30-second commercial. The STRC has helped students from many UC colleges to create movies, including: Law, Medicine, the College-Conservatory of Music, and Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, as well as Clermont College and Raymond Walters College. Funded in part by Information Technology and Instructional Equipment (ITIE) fees, the STRC is available to help students create their movies from the beginning of the project to the end. Adjacent to the STRC is Multimedia Services where students may borrow digital camcorders, sound equipment, tripods, and other equipment used to shoot their videos. After filming, students can then make a reservation to use one of the STRC video-editing suites where the center’s trained staff will work closely with students to help them use the software to edit their movie. The final film can be saved to mini DVD, CD-ROM (MPEG), DVD, or VHS. The STRC, located on the 4th floor of Langsam Library, provides instructional technology resources and services to assist students who require specific software or equipment to complete course assignments. At the STRC, in addition to creating movies, students can: For more information about the STRC or the Alienware video-editing PCs and Adobe Premiere Pro software, visit the STRC or call (513) 556-1980. |
