The submitted publications ranged in medium as well as content. There was artwork such as Clermont College’s Kelly Frigard’s Blue Bird’s Wish; photographs of Wyoming by University Libraries’ Alice Cornell; and musical scores such as Tapestry by Bruce Bardes of the College of Applied Science. There was a CD-ROM, a DVD featuring the Student Technology Resources Center, journal articles, Web sites, and, of course, books of all kinds. Other than English, there were articles and books published in various languages including Spanish, German, Hebrew, and Russian. Eiji Hashimoto’s book, A Performer’s Guide to Baroque and Post-Baroque Music, was written in Japanese. Many works were co-authored, co-edited, or co-created by UC faculty with colleagues and faculty from other institutions. The College of Medicine’s Brian Adams, for example, co-authored the article “Sunscreen Use Among College Athletes” with Erica Hamant.
The event’s program featured remarks by three featured authors:
After the program, attendees were invited to view an exhibit of the celebrated works, which was then on public display in Langsam Library’s 4th and 5th floor lobbies through June 12, 2006. “Authors, Editors & Composers” is funded each year by the Friends of University Libraries. These generous donors also support exhibits and a public lecture series that increases awareness of library collections. |

On April 26, faculty members, university administrators, and librarians gathered to celebrate research and scholarly publishing at UC. The 15th annual “Authors, Editors & Composers” event, organized by University Libraries and sponsored by the Friends of University Libraries, honored a record 282 faculty members and an outstanding group of 475 creative and scholarly works published in 2005. Faculty members represented each UC college plus four academic units.
