Awarding Excellence: Leadership Award

Started in 2005 with a gift from Priscilla Neill, former associate dean for human resources, the Celebrating Excellence award acknowledges exceptional leadership that advances the mission of the University of Cincinnati Libraries. This December, the award was given to two teams who completed major projects that greatly improved library service to users. Those teams were:

The Reference/Government Documents Weeding Team for their significant work to weed the reference and government documents collections of duplicate items and those that can be found online. This massive project allowed for the elimination of an entire bank of stacks, thus opening up the east side of Langsam Library’s 4th floor. This provides considerable more study space and natural light. Individuals involved in the project were:

• Reference and Instructional Services Department: Debbie Tenofsky (Head), Pam Bach, Rosemary Franklin, Olga Hart, Barb Macke, Sally Moffitt, Wahib Nasrallah,
  and Randy Roberts
• Government Documents: Lorna Newman, (Head), and Kathy Kinsey
• Individuals from Technical Services and Facilities: Susan Banoun, Jeff Crawford,
  Sean Crowe, Inge Goldschmidt, Elna Saxton, Tom White, and Joe Volker
• Subject Selectors: James Clasper, Cheryl Ghosh, Arlene Johnson, Charlie Kishman, Jennifer Krivickas, Elizabeth Meyer, Mark Palkovic, Mary Piper, Holly Prochaska, Sharon Purtee, Jacquie Riley, and John Tebo

Summon Implementors/Collections Management & Discovery Council (CMDC) for the implementation of the powerful new search tool, Summon. From a single search box located prominently on the homepage, Summon provides easy and fast discovery of library resources on any topic and has proven very popular with library users. Those individuals involved in the project were:
