Proudly Cincinnati: Tower of Strength, Rock of Truth – The Campaign for the University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati Libraries are an integral part of the University of Cincinnati’s largest fund-raising effort in UC history - Proudly Cincinnati: Tower of Strength, Rock of Truth. With a university-wide goal of raising $1 billion in private support by 2013, UC seeks recognition as one of the finest public urban research universities for the 21st century. Proudly Cincinnati focuses on support for scholarships, great teaching, and excellence in research.

“The Libraries play a significant role in the research excellence of UC students, faculty, and staff,” said Dean and University Librarian Victoria A. Montavon. “Private support is vital to the Libraries’ ability to provide excellent research collections, quality service, engaging learning environments, and innovative instruction in support of the University’s comprehensive mission of teaching, research, and community service.”

The Libraries’ campaign will be greatly advanced by the Campaign Leadership Committee consisting of Richard Lauf (chair), retired Procter & Gamble executive; Norita Aplin, retired Executive Director of The Springer School, BSED ’59 (Elementary Education), PhD ’83 (Educational Administration); Anne Dorsey, Professor Emerita, College of Education, BSED ’56 (Home Economics), MED ’71 (Educational Foundations); Mark Palkovic, Head of the CCM Library; Jacquelene Riley, Head of the Classics Library, BA ’72 (Classics); Ann Santen, BM ’79 (Broadcasting); Mark Schlachter, sculptor and photographer; Rosemary Schlachter, operator of an anti-aging/wellness business and 25th Hour, a fund raising consultancy; and Thomas E. Uhl, BBA ’85 (Marketing), President, National Property Advisors.

The campaign goal for the UC Libraries is to raise $10 million for facility improvements and collections with priority funding opportunities that include:

• College-Conservatory of Music Library - provide new furniture and equipment for the newly designed space on the sixth floor of Blegen Library where the library will move later this year.
• Classics Library- provide new furniture and facility improvements for new space on the fourth floor of Blegen Library for this internationally recognized collection; this move is slated for 2010.
• Langsam Library - upgrade furniture and equipment within UC’s largest library.
• Library Collections Fund - improve collections in key areas, including the University’s Centers of Excellence.
• Library Annual Fund - provide unrestricted gifts for discretionary use across all libraries.
