EOLSS is an integrated compendium of sixteen encyclopedias. It deals in detail with interdisciplinary subjects, but it is also disciplinary as each major core subject is covered in great depth, by world experts. Users can search the whole compendium or select specific subject subsets. All searches search the full text of the encyclopedia.

Sociology: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia is not exclusively dedicated to sociology.   However, this free electronic encyclopedia does include a substantial amount of information on the history of sociology, its major branches and specialized areas, dozens of sociologists, key sociological topics, sociological methodology and other related fields, e.g. criminology, gender and racism.   Wikipedia is an open source encyclopedia supported by the Wikipedia Foundation.   Articles are written collaboratively by contributors all over the world.   Wikipedia includes a comprehensive set of guidelines and policies for contributors.   All articles are rich with links.   Unfortunately, there is no indication of the contributor or their credentials.   Therefore, use this encyclopedia with a critical eye.

Not an encyclopedia per say, the Surfable Books Project, developed by Intraweb.com, is patterned after an encyclopedia.   The sociology component of this project is a portal to web information using the structure of encyclopedias and other reference works.    All selected web sites come with a relevance ranking.   A wide variety of sociology topics are covered, but the coverage is very inconsistent.
