SocINDEX

Call Number:

Available on the Internet (Click on the Title link)

Date:

1895 --

Description:

SocINDEX™ is a comprehensive sociology research database. The index features more than 1,300,000 records (including over 340,000 book reviews and over 8,000 conference proceedings) with subject headings from a 15,600 term sociology-specific thesaurus designed by expert lexicographers. This product also contains informative abstracts for more than 620 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895. In addition, this file provides data mined from more than 500 "priority" coverage journals as well as over 1,390 "selective" coverage journals. Further, extensive indexing for books, monographs, conference papers, and other sources is included. Searchable cited references are also provided. SocINDEX offers coverage from all sub disciplines of sociology, including abortion, anthropology, criminology, criminal justice, cultural sociology, demography, economic development, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, politics, religion, rural sociology, social psychology, social structure, social work, sociological theory, sociology of education, substance abuse, urban studies, violence, welfare, and many others.  Note on conference papers:  Selective conference papers are available from Sociological Abstracts (SA). SA offers all conference authors the opportunity to make their papers available via SA. However, many authors decline the offer. Papers from these authors may be available by contacting the author, or sometimes the papers eventually get published in a traditional journal. Papers available via SA will have the necessary contact information published in the full record in SA, either print or electronic version.  Papers may be ordered through the University of Cincinnati Libraries' Interlibrary Loan System (http://illiad.uc.edu/index2.html).

Book Reviews:  SocINDEX contains over 340,000 book reviews.  To locate book reviews, conduct your normal search for a topic or perhaps the author of the reviewed book, and then in the "Limit Your Results" box select "Book Review" from the "Document Type" option box.  Click on the [Search] button to invoke your search.
