Brookings Institution A not-for-profit policy organization, the Brookings Institution engages in and publishes independent research intended to strengthen American democracy, secure American economic and social opportunities, and encourage international cooperation. CDI - Center for Defense Information Composed of academics and retired military officers, the Center for Defense Information fosters international cooperation, arms reductions, and oversight of military spending as a means of achieving national security. Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) Located at Stanford University, the Center for International Security and Cooperation is part of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. CISAC engages in interdisciplinary, scholarly research that focuses on security problems.
Center for Strategic and International Studies ( CSIS ) A bipartisan, nonprofit organization, Center for Strategic and International Studies undertakes research and analysis designed to assist both the public and private sectors to develop policy. Located at St. Andrews University, the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence engages in the scientific analysis of the causes, manifestations, and consequences of political violence and terrorism. ICT - International Institute for Counter-Terrorism This independent think tank provides expertise in homeland security, risk assessment, and other aspects of counter-terrorism. Scholars contribute research papers and situation reports and the organization maintains an increasingly large database on its web site of research and statistics relating to global terrorist organizations and activities.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) This mutual defense alliance of 26 European and North American signatories to the The North Atlantic Treaty invoked article 5 for the first time following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

This database provides complete digital images from the Times (London). Current paper issues of the Times are shelved with current periodicals and are replaced by the microfilm edition: Microfilm N2, which may be used after the digital edition ends with 1985. AccessUN 1998- Connect
This database indexes current and retrospective United Nations Publications. The Langsam Library subscribed to the printed official records (General Assembly, Security
Council, etc.) from 1945 to 1987 and continues to purchase many UN sales publications. These documents are cataloged and listed in Uclid. Since 1987 the Marx Law Library has maintained UN official records in a microform subscription. The United Nations maintains a web page.
The library maintains a separate section for our U.S. government documents, which are shelved on 4E in Langsam Library according to the system devised by the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc system). Some of our older documents have been given Library of Congress cataloging and are shelved in the library’s book stacks. Increasingly, government documents are issued in or converted to digital format. An overview of UC’s federal documents collection is provided on the Government Documents subject page.
