Human Rights (U.S. Dept. of State) - The State Department site contains links to Country Reports on Human Rights Practices throughout the world, as well as other documents and reports, press briefings, speeches, and other related foreign affairs sites.
Committee on International Relations (U.S. House of Representatives) - The committee holds hearings and issues reports on topics and pending legislation concerning international human rights issues. This site features committee reports and documents from the 106th Congress (1999-2000) forward.
Committee on Foreign Relations (U.S. Senate) – The committee oversees most aspects of the relations of the United States with other countries. The site features full text committee hearings, prints, and legislative publications, and committee membership and rules.
Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (an independent agency of the U.S. government) - The Commission was established to monitor and encourage compliance, particularly with regard to human rights, with the Helsinki Final Act of 1975. The site contains links to commission publications that include full-text hearings, briefings, reports, and other publications that highlight human rights issues in Europe.
USINFO (U.S. Dept. of State, International Information Programs) - USINFO delivers information about current U.S. foreign policy and about American life and culture. The human rights page includes access to reports, full-text journal articles, White House statements, and other documents on human rights.
United States Institute of Peace - An independent, nonpartisan federal institution created by Congress to promote the prevention, management, and peaceful resolution of international conflicts. The library’s site includes a link U.S. Human Rights Policy:Web links that offers links to USIP reports and selected other resources that discuss human rights and U.S. foreign policy.
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - An independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. One of the areas of interest is in democracy and governance that has a goal of “strengthening the Rule of Law and Respect for Human Rights.”
United States Code - The U.S. Code, prepared by the Office of the Law Revision Council, contains the codified general and permanent laws of the United States. Search the U.S. Code to locate laws related to human rights, children's rights, civil rights, Native American rights, and rights of the disabled. Print holdings of this title can also be found in the Langsam Reference Collection (Ref KF 62 2000 .A2).
Human Rights Library (Univ. of Minnesota) – Provides links to international human rights treaties, U.S. human rights information, as well as the ability to search multiple human rights sites.
United Nations Human Rights (UN) – The Office of the High Commission for Human Rights (OHCHR) is responsible for United Nations human rights activities with a mandate to promote and protect all human rights: civil, political, economic, social and cultural.
Locating US Government Documents
Search the MARCIVE database to find bibliographic records of government documents. This database only includes records from 1976 forward. Some records include links to the online version. To determine whether the title is owned at UC, perform a title search in the online catalog. Most government documents are housed in the government documents collection on the 4th floor of Langsam Library. The catalog entry will indicate the location: Langsam GovDoc US.
Locating UN Publications
Search AccessUN (coverage 1998- ) to locate UN publications or search UNBISnet (the catalogue of the UN Dag Hammarskjold Library). Some of the titles listed may be owned at UC, check the online catalog and the OhioLINK catalog to locate an owning library.
