Article Indexes/Databases

The indexes below can be searched to help locate materials created by Federal agencies.  Some databases provide links to the full text of the document and may also index non-governmental literature. 

AGRICOLA (National Agricultural Library) – Provides access to the National Agricultural Library catalog and a journal article citation database.

Air University Index to Military Periodicals – Contains citations to English language military periodicals from 1989 forward.

CancerLIT - CancerLit is a bibliographic database that contains citations and abstracts for cancer literature from over 4,000 different sources, including biomedical journals, proceedings, books, reports, and doctoral theses. It covers 1963-2002.

DOE Information Bridge - Sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) and GPO, the Information Bridge provides bibliographic records and the full text of DOE sponsored scientific and technical information from January 1995.

Energy Citations Database – This database was developed and designed by the United States Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). It contains citations from 1948 to the present.

ERIC Database (Educational Resources Information Center) – ERIC  is a distributed national information system designed to provide users with ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature. ERIC, established in 1966, is supported by the National Library of Education, a part of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Research and Improvement. 

GrayLIT Network - Searchable database of scientific and technical reports produced by U.S. government agencies including the Defense Technical Information Center, Department of Energy, NASA, and Environmental Protection Agency. Includes full text of many documents.

NASA Technical Reports Server - Publicly available, the NASA Technical Reports Server is an experimental service that allows users to search the many different abstracts and technical report servers maintained by various NASA centers and programs.

NCJRS (National Criminal Justice Reference Service) - Produced by the U.S. National Institute of Justice, this online database indexes and abstracts journals, reports, and documents from all levels of government and the private sector relating to criminal justice and law enforcement. Topics such as victims of crime, death penalty, child abuse, youth gangs, and statistics are included. Time period coverage is 1972 to the present.

PubMed - This service is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) search service to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases. MEDLINE covers the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences.  Coverage from 1966-  .

Science.gov - An interagency portal that makes available selected authoritative scientific web sites and databases of technical reports, journal articles, conference proceedings, and other published materials from science agencies throughout the federal government. The web pages and the databases can be searched individually or simulatenously from the search page. Includes links to full text.

Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports - STAR provides abstracts of aerospace-related reports from Government agencies, research institutions and industry worldwide, including reports on aeronautics, space, and supporting disciplines. This site provides .pdf files of the index issues. Electronic access began in 1996.
