Specific criminal justice journals:

Use the following procedure to find your journal

Select   [Full Text Journals] to search or browse for full-text.

Step #2   -   To find paper copy and selected full-text journals not represented in Step #1

Select [UCLID] to conduct a journal title search.

Step #3   -   To find journals in local libraries

Select one of the following links to see if a local library owns your journal.

Cincinnati State

Miami University

Mt. Saint Joseph

NKU

Cincinnati Public

University of Dayton

Wright State University

Xavier University

Step #4   -   Inter-Library Loan (ILL)

Request a copy of an article through the University of Cincinnati Libraries' Inter-Library Loan (ILLiad) service.

Criminal justice journals owned by U.C.:

Build a list of journals in your specific subject area.

•  To build a list of full-text (electronic) journals, select [Full Text Journals]   and perform a "Loose words search" (this is a Boolean "OR" search) for "single" word, broad terms that represent your topic area, e.g. corrections, addiction or criminal.   Use the truncation symbol "*" to retrieve word variants.   For example, the following search would retrieve journals related to criminal justice: crime* criminal* addiction* correction* prison* police policing delinquen* penology

•  To conduct additional "loose word" searches, you must return to your original "Full Text Journals" search screen.   Add or delete single words to your term list to increase or decrease the inclusiveness of the list.

•  To conduct a search for "combined" terms, e.g. "drug addiction"   or "white collar crime" remain in the new Electronic Journals search screen, and select the " Title contains all words" search (this is a Boolean "AND" search).

•  To build a list of paper or selected full-text (electronic) journals, select [UCLID] and perform a "keyword" search for your topic area, e.g. psychology, psychometrics or cognitive psychology.   (This search is neither as comprehensive nor as accurate as the above search for full-text journals.)

•  Enter multiple, "single word" terms separated by "OR" to build a comprehensive list of journal titles, e.g.,   psychotherapy or hypnosis or counseling

Article Title:

Citation impact of individuals and journals.

Author:

Carey, David P.

Journal Title:

Cortex

Call Number:

Available on the Internet (Click on the Title link)

Date:

Sep 2001

Volume:

37

Issue:

4

Page(s):

580-582

Description:

(Locate volume 37, issue 4 and then look under "Cortex Forum" for David P. Carey.)
Carey discusses how the Impact Factor (IF) of a journal may reflect on the IF of a particular paper in that journal, in that publishing in a high IF journal does not guarantee a high IF for a particular article in that journal. IF ratings can be useful when assessing the impact of a particular scientist, although the method has potential sources of errors. IF can also reveal information about the pattern of cross citations and who is not citing specific references. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2002 APA, all rights reserved)
