Sociological Abstracts provides access to the world's literature in sociology and related disciplines, both theoretical and applied. The database includes abstracts of journal articles Some from over 2500 journals, abstracts of conference papers presented at various sociological association meetings, relevant dissertation listings from Dissertations Abstracts International, enhanced bibliographic citations of book reviews, and abstracts of some sociology books. Approximately 2500 journals in 30 different languages from about 55 countries are scanned for inclusion, covering sociological topics in fields such as anthropology, crime, economics, education, medicine, community development, philosophy, demography, political science, and social psychology. Journals published by sociological associations, groups, faculties, and institutes, and periodicals containing the term "sociology" in their titles, are abstracted fully, irrespective of language or country of publication. Non-core journals are screened for articles by sociologists and/or articles of immediate interest or relevance to sociologists. Coverage: 1963 to present. Note on conference papers: Selective conference papers are available from Sociological Abstracts (SA). SA offers all conference authors the opportunity to make their papers available via SA. However, many authors decline the offer. Papers from these authors may be available by contacting the author, or sometimes the papers eventually get published in a traditional journal. Papers available via SA will have the necessary contact information published in the full record in SA, either print or electronic version. The cost of these papers is $12.50 as of July, 1999. The Interlibrary Loan Department often will subsidize this cost for graduate students and faculty. |
