SPORTDiscus offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and related disciplines. This database contains over 650,000 records including journal and magazine articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings and more.   Coverage goes back to 1800 and is provided by the Sport Information Resource Centre.

Academic Search Premier  :  1984 - current

Contains full text journals for over 3,180 scholarly publications.   This is a general index and contains an abundance of resources of interest to the athletic trainer.  In the find field box, enter athletic train * (the * finds trainer and training), then enter a second concept, like knee, in the second box.

CINAHL (Nursing & Allied Health)

CINAHL ( C umulative I ndex to N ursing and A llied H ealth L iterature).
Contains topics of interest to the athletic trainer.   CINAHL indexes athletic training journals not available in MEDLINE.    Many journals are available full-text.

MEDLINE :  2001 - (current)
MEDLINE :  1966 - (complete)

MEDLINE is the primary source for athletic trainers and includes articles on clinical matters, diagnosis, therapeutic modalities and much more.   Contains over 3,900 biomedical journals, with many titles available full text.

Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition

This database provides over 580 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines especially nursing and allied health.    Also featured are abstracts and indexing for over 627 journals. Updated on a daily basis.   This database also contains Stedman's Medical Dictionary .

Health & Wellness Resource Center

Use this Resource Center to find magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, and information on fitness, medicine, nutrition, alcohol and drug abuse, prescription drugs and more. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases.  

Example:   Look up "acl" in the Medical Encyclopedia and find text and pictures!   Use the Medical Dictionary.


SUPPLEMENTARY DATABASES:

PsycINFO1967 - present

PsycINFO indexes journal articles, book chapters, books and dissertations in the field of psychology.    Athletic training topics are covered from a psychological perspective.

Alt-HealthWatch

Alt-HealthWatch focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness.   Full-text and peer-reviewed articles, reports, proceedings, pamphlets, special reports, and association/consumer newsletters are indexed.   Enter athletic train*, with the *, in the find: field and take a look at your results.

Clinical Pharmacology

Clinical Pharmacology provides access up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs.

Health Source : Consumer Edition

This database features searchable full text for over 190 journals including Consumer Reports on Health and Men's Health, as well as abstracts and indexing for over 205 general health, nutrition and professional health care publications.   Enter athletic train*, with the *, in the find: field and take a look at your results.
