CORE Databases

ERIC    (E ducational R esources I nformation C enter)      1966 -                               

Largest database for educational research and practice. It contains journal articles, ERIC documents (ED's), books and conference papers.

 

Education Abstracts1988 -

Indexes 423 core international periodicals, monographs, and yearbooks in education. The fields of health promotion and education are also covered.

SPORTDiscus : 1800 - present

SPORTDiscus offers comprehensive, bibliographic coverage of sport, fitness and health promotion and education related disciplines. This database contains over 650,000 records including journal and magazine articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings and more. Coverage goes back to 1800 and is provided by the Sport Information Resource Centre.

CINAHL (Nursing & Allied Health )
CINAHL , C umulative I ndex to N ursing and A llied H ealth L iterature , contains information on consumer health, health services administration by indexing the literature of all English-language nursing journals and 17 journals from other allied health disciplines.   Databases includes articles, books, pamphlets, dissertations, audiovisuals and software.

MEDLINE 2000 - current
MEDLINE 1966 - current
MEDLINE is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. This database contains bibliographic citations (e.g., authors, title, and journal reference), author abstracts and some full text for over 3,900 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 foreign countries.

PsycINFO 1967 - present
PsycINFO indexes journal articles, book chapters, books and dissertations in the field of psychology.    Athletic training topics are covered from a psychological perspective.

Sociological Abstracts
Contains 2,600 international journals along with conference papers, books and dissertations covering sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences.

SUPPLEMENTARY Databases

Alt-HealthWatch
Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine dating back to 1990.   This databases provides full text of over 170 full-text and many peer-reviewed journals along with reports, proceedings, pamphlets and association/consumer newsletters.

Health & Wellness Resource Center
Use this Resource Center to find magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, and information on fitness, medicine, nutrition, alcohol and drug abuse, prescription drugs and more. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases.    (Example:   Look up "acl" in the Medical Encyclopedia and find text and pictures!   Use the Medical Dictionary.)

Health Source - Consumer Edition
Contains over 190 full text journals, as well as abstracts and indexing for over 200 general health, nutrition and professional health care publications.   Information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health.   Coverage is from 1984 to present.

Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition
This database provides over 580 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines especially nursing and allied health.    Also featured are abstracts and indexing for over 627 journals. Updated on a daily basis.   This database also contains Stedman's Medical Dictionary .

Sociological Collection
The database includes 615 full text titles covering all areas of sociology, including social behavior, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure.

HaPI - Health and Psychosocial Instruments
HaPI provides ready access to information on measurement instruments in the health fields abd psychosocial sciences. Measurement instruments include questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques and vignettes/scenarios.

Clinical Pharmacology
Clinical Pharmacology provides access up-to-date, concise and clinically relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs
