What is SciFinder Scholar?

SciFinder Scholar provides access to the databases of Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), and covers the full spectrum of chemical information, including biochemistry, organic/inorganic chemistry, and chemical engineering/applied chemistry. SciFinder Scholar includes references to over 16 million journal articles, patents and other documents. In addition, SciFinder Scholar contains over 22 million substance records from the CAS Chemical Registry database, including molecular structures, names, formulas, and CAS registry numbers for coordination compounds, polymers, biosequences, stereoisomers, and alloys.

SciFinder Scholar provides a user-friendly interface with the following search options:

• Chemical Substance or Reaction
  Input a chemical's name, formula, structure, or CAS Registry Number to find references about the substance or reactions containing the substance.
• Research Topic
  Find literature related to a research topic.
• Author Name
  Find literature written by a specific author.
• Specific Reference
  Find literature by CA abstract number or patent number.

• SciFinder Scholar (Client Version) is available in the Information Commons of the Chemistry-Biology Library.
• Only currently registered students, faculty and staff of the University of Cincinnati have access to SciFinder Scholar.
• We currently have a “two seat” license. That means only two people at UC can use the database at the same time.
• If all sessions are in use you will get the following message:

“SciFinder Scholar is unable to establish a session because all concurrent sessions on your campus are in use. Please try again later.”

• The system is very easy to use and requires no training.
