Guide to Using Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD)
Curriculum guides: These represent the scope and sequence of various concepts and skills taught in elementary and secondary school curriculums across the U.S. In addition to having paper versions of curriculum guides, the CRC has over 600 curriculum guides on microfiche (Kraus Curriculum Development Library) with an excellent index. A reader printer is available for viewing and printing paper copies of the microfiche. Recent curriculum guides are available fulltext in the database, KCDL Online. With the availability of this excellent database, the CRC purchases very few paper curriculum guides.

Pre K – 12 Magazines: Various preschool through senior high school level magazines are provided on a wide range of subjects. These provide many articles, stories, activities, puzzles, and games that can be used in the classroom. Back issues of these pre k – 12 magazines are retained for three years and may be checked out.
Professional education books: This collection covers the theoretical academic books in the various curriculum and instruction areas of teacher education, early childhood education, literacy/language arts education, mathematics education, science education, social studies education, educational media and technology, etc. Many professional education books such as educational foundations, educational administration, special education, counseling and school psychology are located in Langsam Library.
Professional education journals: Professional journals shelved alphabetically by title and covering primarily the curriculum areas found in the CRC and mentioned above are also available. Journals for the other education areas are housed in Langsam Library. CRC journals do not circulate.

Standardized tests: A selected collection of standardized tests is available to authorized students enrolled in particular education courses.
Children’s & Young Adult Books Publishers’ Preview Area: The CRC has created a special area adjacent to our regular children’s and young adult collection that features recently published books contributed by publishers. This provides an opportunity for teachers and library media specialists to review these newly published books. Such publishers as Simon and Schuster, Henry Holt and Company, Little Brown and Company and Farrar Straus Giroux are featured.
Phi Delta Kappa George H. Reavis Reading Center: The CRC receives all of the Phi Delta Kappa fastbacks and monographs as part of the George H. Reavis Reading Center program. These publications provide excellent discussions of current issues in the field of education.
NASA Educators Resource Center: The CRC is the site of a NASA Educators Resource Center (ERC). NASA has presented the CRC with a large number of videocassettes, slide/tape programs, CD-ROMs, unit teaching guides with hands-on activities and built on national standards, pictures, posters, and other publications. These materials have mostly been produced by NASA and are concerned with the U.S. space program as well as various other topics in science. New materials are constantly being added to the ERC. Teachers may bring their own blank VHS videocassettes and the CRC staff will make copies of requested NASA videos free of charge. This is an invaluable resource for school science curriculums as well as for other disciplines in elementary and secondary classrooms. NASA.gov serves as the gateway for information on Missions, Research, Programs, and Services offered by NASA. The educational sections provide educators access to curriculum support materials and resources produced through collaborations with NASA's mission directorates. These efforts result in innovative and informative educational materials that engage student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Access educational resources online from NASA's Web site.
