Distance Learners - General Resources
General information for distance learners in UC courses, including electronic databases, journals, and books, citing resources, and how to obtain materials not available through UC's Libraries (interlibrary loan).
Use UCLID (UC’s Library Catalog) to locate books, periodicals, videos, and other materials owned by UC, and the OhioLINK database for items owned by other Ohio college and university libraries.
From the catalog menu, select KEYWORD and initiate your search using your topic terms (phrase, software name, company, personal name). KEYWORD searches for words across the title, series title, organization, association, content notes, publisher, and subject.
For a more focused search, select SUBJECT and initiate your search using a Library of Congress subject term (subject, place name or personal name). Relevant examples of subject headings are:
- Emergency medical services
- Fire chiefs
- Fire departments
- Fire departments -- Management
- Fire extinction
- Fire fighters
- Fire prevention
- Fires
- Hazardous substances -- Fires and fire prevention
To search specific words in the title, series title, organization, association, content notes, publisher, and subject, use the KEYWORD search option.
Use the LIMIT/SORT button to limit your results to items located at CEAS Library, Electronic Resources, and other options. Use the REQUEST button to have Available materials delivered to CEAS Library from other UC libraries.
If you don’t find the items you want in UCLID, search OhioLINK, a library network of Ohio college and university catalogs. Use the OhioLINK CENTRAL button to enter the database, search and request materials.
