March 2006 Newsletter

New Book List for books received in February 2006.

Quick Search at Ohiolink allows searching across Ohiolink databses with Google-like simplicity and library-quality results. This new search option saves time by allowing users to search multiple Ohiolink resources simultaneously and receive results in a unified display.

  • Find Quick Search on the Ohiolink main page in the quick links.

  • The Quick Search page also offers Multi-Database Search for the category Comuter Science/Engineering/Math.

While Quick Search and Multi-Database Search are easy to use, they don't begin to cover the broad array of databases available through Ohiolink or offered locally at UC. See tips (designed for libraries) for using Quick Search at http://www.engrlib.uc.edu/instruction/tips.pdf.

National Archives and Google launched a pilot project to digitize historic films, including a sampling of documentaries produced by NASA on the history of the spaceflight program and story of Apollo 11, the historic first landing on the Moon, the history of establishing the national and state parks. The latter documentation includes footage on Boulder Dam, water and wind erosion, Civilian Conservation Corps workers, and the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Springer (publisher) book backfiles have been purchased and linked in UCLID. This includes the Lecture Notes in Computer Science and the Advances in Polymer Science.

As subscribers to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (ImechE) Proceedings (A-O) package, we now have access to the IMechE Archives, 1847-1996 at http://archive.pepublishing.com/ . The individual titles are being linked in UCLID.
