RefWorks 2.0 for Engineers -- The new RefWorks 2.0 platform is now available. Learn how to use this bibliographic management tool to create and manage citations retrieved while conducting your literature reviews. More information click here.
KNOVEL -- Learn how to search KNOVEL with its interactive capabilities. Over 3,900 reference books are available on your desktop through this product. For supplemental instructional materials for this workshop, click here.
LaTeX -- LaTeX is an open source document preparation system widely used in Engineering, Mathematics, natural sciences and other disciplines. Using LaTeX, you can write articles and reports faster and easier than by using word processors such as MS Word especially when using mathematical symbols, equations and when generating bibliographies. This introductory workshop is aimed at getting familiar with the bare bones features of LaTeX and will include a brief introduction to tools such as BiBTeX. For supplemental instructional materials for this workshop, click here. Registration is required for this workshop. To register, go to http://webcentral.uc.edu/hslclass/ and locate this workshop.
IEEExplore/ACM/INSPEC -- Learn the searching capabilities for IEEExplore, INSPEC, and the ACM Digital Library. Content coverage includes physics, electrical and computer engineering. For supplemental instructional materials for this workshop, click here.
Prezi -- Tired of your standard presentation software? Learn about Prezi, a cloud-based software, and make your presentations more visually exciting. If you have your own laptop (no iPads), please bring it to the workshop. For supplemental instructional materials for this workshop, click here. Registration is required for this workshop. To register, go to http://webcentral.uc.edu/hslclass/ and locate this workshop.
Assessing the Impact of Research: ISI Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar -- Who cites your research? What journals have the highest impact factors in your field? How do you identify your h-index? What is an h-index? This session will introduce these concepts and tools that can answer these questions including Scopus, ISI Journal Citation Reports, and Google Scholar.
Screencasting -- This workshop introduces Screencast-O-Matic and Jing, two basic applications for screen recording. Learn how to create a video (with narration) that records anything you do on a computer screen: navigating a website, demonstrating software, etc. Screen recording is a simple way to create brief “how-to” videos, provide feedback on student assignments, and more. If you have your own laptop, please bring it to the workshop. Note: these applications do not run on the iPad. For supplemental information on this workshop, click here.
