http://www.libraries.uc.edu/libraries/ceas/instruction/classes/other/retreuexercise2011.html
Research Guide: http://www.libraries.uc.edu/libraries/ceas/instruction/classes/other/retreu2011.html

For this exercise you will locate one book (print or e-book), three articles, and one conference paper on your research topic. Find these resources in print or electronic form, format the citations for each in the proper format (ASCE for this exercise).  These citations can be utilized in a bibliography at the end of a paper.

This exercise will be due to your advisor:

REU (Undergraduates) -- by Tuesday, July 5, 2011

RET (Teachers) -- by Tuesday, July 19, 2011

You will need Internet access to complete this research assignment.  Computer workstations are available in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Library or CEAS labs as well as in computer labs in your respective areas. Ted Baldwin (Ted.Baldwin@uc.edu) or  Jim Clasper (Jim.Clasper@uc.edu) can assist you if you have questions.

Remember to log in for off-campus access is you are working from home (non-UC Internet service provider). http://www.libraries.uc.edu/information/access.html

RESEARCH TASKS

1.Select a thesis or research project topic related to the research you are conducting this summer.  Begin this exercise by stating the goal(s) and objectives of this thesis or research project topic; a brief description of the methodologies used (e.g. library sources and tools utilized); and a list of key words, key phrases, and other search techniques you used to find information.

2. Search for a book using the UC Library catalog or the E-books (Books Online) guide to search across a specific e-book collection.

3.  Search Computer and Applied Science Complete (CASC ) for information on your topic.   Find at least one journal article from this database. Use the UC Article Linker icon or check Full Text Journals for online availability.

4.  Search a specialized database appropriate for your subject area.  Locate two (2) additional journal articles and one (1) conference paper on your topic.

Aerospace Database
COMPENDEX
ProQuest Engineering and Science
Civil Engineering Abstracts
Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management (ESPM)
Mechanical and Transportation Engineering Abstracts
Scientific.net

5. Once you find your articles, type out your citations on a page of paper using the appropriate citation example found in the ASCE citing format.
