Jamming Barges Under the Suspension  Bridge, 1921
Painted by H H.Wesssel, a pupil of Frank Duvenek
Suggested by Dean Schneider
Gift of the Engineering Class of 1920
(Photo from Cooperative Engineer, frontispiece, October 1925)
“Dean Schneider had spoken to me about the possibilities of a picture of the suspension bridge over the Ohio River, with the
sky-line of Cincinnati as a background.  I looked at the bridge one or two times and at first it seemed so big and cumbersome
that I could not see materials for a picture there.  Then, one day, the thought came to me that if the high Kentucky shore were
cut away, so that the bridge could be seen against the sky, distance would lend it beauty.  Then the idea came to me that I
could paint it that way and so I did.”  H.H.Wessel (Quoted in the Cooperative Engineer, January 1922)
