Locating Articles (Journal, Magazine, Newspaper)
When you have a citation for an article (title and author of the article, volume and year of the journal, and journal title), take the following steps to locate the article at UC or request through interlibrary loan sources.
- Be sure to have the most complete citation for your article (title/author/page numbers of the article, volume/year of the journal, and journal title). If you have an abbreviated journal title, try the JAKE tool for help uncovering the full title.
- If you are searching in an article database, check if your citation's record contains a link for locating the full-text article. If you see
or the UC Article Linker text, choose this first (more details on Article Linker). Otherwise, choose the OLinks, Page Image, or the
image. - If the full-text is not available through these links, search by the journal's title in Full Text Journals to locate an online version of the magazine or journal.
- If the journal is not available online, a paper copy may be available at a UC library. Search by the journal title using the TITLE option in the UC Library Catalog. If you get too many results in the catalog, narrow your search by limiting from "View Entire Collection" to "Periodicals/Serials."
- If the journal or magazine issue you need is held in paper copy at CAS Library, please stop by the library to make a copy of the article for your use. For reference, review the full list of periodicals held at CAS Library.
- If the journal issue you need is held at another UC library besides CAS (e.g., Engineering Library, DAAP Library, Langsam Library, Southwest Depository SW Depository, Lloyd Library LLOYD), you can request a copy of the article through the ILLiad service (Interlibrary Loan). If you have not used ILLiad before, you will need to create a new account. Many articles can be delivered electronically.
- If the journal issue you need is not available in the UC Library Catalog, please request a copy of the article through the ILLiad service. Your article will be provided from another library outside of the local UC network. Many articles can be delivered electronically. Due to processing time, it may take several weeks to receive the article.
