2006 - The Future

The 1990s and the first years of the new century saw no Cincinnatians published. A couple of reasons were cited, including budget cuts and apathy (see the text from the 1989 issue below) but whatever the reasons, there has been no central student expression in pictures for the past fifteen years. This was a national trend in the ' 90s with many colleges and universities abandoning yearbooks due to budget, disinterest, and the emergence of digital memory products that were easier and cheaper to produce.

Through the efforts of dedicated students and staff, the Cincinnatian has again been revived. For more information about the 2005-2006 Cincinnatian and the people behind it, and to find out how you can be involved in the 2006-2007 edition, visit the Cincinnatian web page.

Cincinnatian
The Cincinnatian has deep traditional roots here at the University of Cincinnati. However, The Cincinnatian took a long hiatus from 1987 to 2005. There is no real documented reason as to why the publication stopped, however many attirbute it to a lack of enthusiasm for the project. However, now in 2005-2006 there is an excited group of students who desired to take home memories of the "best times of our lives"! It is the Cincinnatian organization's plan to ensure that the legacy and tradition continues.

Some have asked "why even bother bringing back something that has not been around for over 20 years?" To that we say: Creating a yearbook for the University of Cincinnati would help to support the new UC21 plan that has been implemented into the University. The main points that are supported by the University yearbook include:

  • Students First - adopt a philosophy and key mechanisms that put the priority on students' needs; develop a real and virtual, university-wide concept of one-stop service.
  • Sense of Place - Develop an environment where members of the campus community and the community at large want to spend time--learning, living, playing and staying; provide long-term support to build a better Uptown.
  • We're all UC - develop a "UC Community" to unify and create a sense of belonging for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends.

And aside from all of that, having a yearbook is a way to remember those events and moments that sometimes slip from our memory over time. Imagine begin able to show your kids and grandkids years from now how crazy you "used" to be in college! Now you will be able to share all of those memories.

Look out for the 2006-2007 Edition next fall....it only gets better!
