Throughout the city, Turner demonstrations were held in the public schools and in parks.  Other activities were scheduled for the Palace of the Fans, the Cincinnati Reds ballpark in the West End, and at Chester Park north of the neighborhood of Clifton.  At Chester Park, surrounded by the slides, clubhouse and pool, vendor’s stands did a booming business on the festival’s first night when fireworks lit the sky, and Garry Herrmann’s profile was outlined in pyrotechnics.

Visitors also found other diversions to occupy their time.  On a postcard of the German Deaconess Hospital, bearing the special “ Bundesturnfest” postmark, a man wrote to a friend in St. Louis, “Am having a good time.  This is a wide open town, about 8 saloons to a block.  Going to inspect a brewery in Newport, Kentucky tomorrow.”
