German Methodist Episcopal Church

German Methodist Episcopal Church, now known as Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church, began in 1849 when two families from Nast Memorial Methodist Church moved to Mt. Healthy and joined with other German families in their homes for prayer. In 1850 the group bought a lot on Perry Street and constructed their first church. By 1889 the church was deemed to be too small and was demolished to make way for a new gothic style structure which first held services in 1891. By the early 1900s services were held exclusively in English and the name was changed to Mt. Healthy United Methodist in 1915.
