The Nelson and Florence Hoffmann Cincinnati Postcard Collection
US-12-03

ORGANIZATION OF THE COLLECTION

The Nelson and Florence Hoffmann Cincinnati Postcard Collection encompasses 7 boxes.  Boxes 1-3 contain Nelson Hoffmann’s research on various topics related to Cincinnati.  Boxes 4-7 contain Hoffmann’s binders of postcards which have been archived in the original binders, according to Hoffman’s organizational and numbering schema.  The OhioLINK EAD Repository contains complete descriptions of all boxes and binders included in the collection but not the inventory for individual postcards.  The individual postcard inventory can be found in the finding aid on the A&RB Library website.

A WORD ABOUT THE POSTCARDS

All of the postcards in each binder have been individually catalogued, according to their descriptive title, date, manufacturer’s number, A&RB catalogue number, and binder/box number.  As some of the postcards in the collection were never sent and/or lacked a copyright date, their date has been catalogued as N.D. (no date).  If an estimate could be made, based on the card content, “circa” was placed in front of the date.  All other postcards were dated according to copyright information or postage stamp date.  The following provides an example of the information found on the back of a typical postcard in the collection.Click on this image to see a larger version.
