Barry Moser was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1940. He is an illustrator, printer, painter, printmaker, designer, author, essayist, and teacher. He is best known for his elaborately detailed woodcuts, especially for Alice in Wonderland (1982) and The Holy Bible (1999).
His work, Men of Printing (1976) is the most significant in this collection. In this volume, Moser pairs the obituaries of eight printing craftsman with an original woodcut portrait. Included are William Morris, “Mr. Cobden-Sanderson”, Sir Emery Walker, and Eric Gill.
