Depending on condition of materials and copyright restrictions, the Archives & Rare Books Library will make reproductions of images from its holdings for personal, non-commercial, and commercial use. Our general policy is to scan images and burn them to a compact disc according to the needs of the purchaser and the limitations of our scanning equipment. Turnaround time varies according to request, but requests by University of Cincinnati faculty, staff, and students have priority over those from outside the UC community.
In general, our fee structure follows established fee schedules of university and historical society libraries, and is based on similar fees established by the Ohio Historical Society.
Faculty, staff, and students of the University of Cincinnati – no publication or use fee. A $5.00 scanning/burning fee or the exchange of a blank compact disc is required. For all use, print or electronic, the following credit line is required: “Courtesy Archives & Rare Books Library, University of Cincinnati.”
Personal Research Use – no publication or use fee. A $5.00 scanning/burning fee PER image is required. No publication in any format, print or electronic, is permitted without prior permission.
News Media – no publication or use fee. For print or broadcast, the desired credit line is: “Courtesy University of Cincinnati.”
Non-Profit Use – no publication or use fee for academic presses and non-profit media. A $5.00 scanning/burning fee PER image is required. $35.00/image for exhibition purposes. $125/image for multi-media use (two or more types, including but not limited to print, electronic, film, and web). The following credit line is required for any use of the image: “Courtesy Archives & Rare Books Library, University of Cincinnati.” One copy of the finished print or electronic format product is required.
Commercial Use - $25.00/image. $250.00/image for multi-media use (two or more types, including but not limited to print, electronic, film, and web). The following credit line is required for any use of the image: “Courtesy Archives & Rare Books Library, University of Cincinnati.” One copy of the finished print or electronic format product is required.
Note: all reproduction or permission to use images already reproduced is for one-time, non-exclusive use. Any further use requires additional fees and permissions.
