After the regular Langsam hours listed below, library space only will be open for students to study until 2am during midterms. To enter the library after the regular closing time, students must do so via the 5th floor UCit@Langsam card-swipe entrance (a valid UC ID is required).

Please note: no library staff or services requiring staff assistance will be available after the regular closing time (with the exception of UCit@Langsam); however, security will be present thanks to UC’s Public Safety. After 2am, students will be asked to go to UCit@Langsam to remain in the library.

The midterm hours for Langsam Library are:

  • Tues-Thurs, February 12-14: 7:45am-11pm [EXTENDED 11pm-2am STUDY SPACE ONLY, ENTER VIA 5TH FLOOR]
  • Sun, February 17: Noon-11pm [EXTENDED 11pm-2am STUDY SPACE ONLY, ENTER VIA 5TH FLOOR]
  • Mon-Thurs, February 18-21: 7:45am-11pm [EXTENDED 11pm-2am STUDY SPACE ONLY, ENTER VIA 5TH FLOOR]

As always, please be safe when leaving the library no matter what the hour. UC offers NightRide to get students home safely:

  • NightRide will run 8pm-6am, making rounds to pick up students at the base of the Langsam/ERC steps on Woodside Drive. NightRide can be reached at 556-RIDE or speak to the Langsam Security Officer before you exit the building and they will contact NightRide.

The free mobile device charging kiosk located in UCIT@Langsam allows students, faculty and staff to securely charge Apple and Android devices for free.

photowebUC Information Technologies (UCIT) has partnered with the Office of the University Architect, Student Government and UC Libraries to place a mobile device charging station in UCIT@Langsam, the 24-hour computer and study space located on the 5th floor of Langsam Library.

The free-standing charging kiosk offers a total of nine key-coded lockers that provide the security of leaving phones or tablets while they charge. Seven lockers are compatible with Apple iPhones and Android phones, and two accommodate iPads or Android tablets.

“With nearly 38,000 devices accessing our wireless network every day, there is a significant demand to keep mobile devices charged up on-the-go,” said Nelson C. Vincent, vice president for information technology and CIO. “UCIT aims to meet this demand to keep all of our partners on campus –students, faculty and staff—charged and connected to the important work they do to propel the institution’s education and research agenda forward into UC’s third century.”

UCIT plans to install another kiosk in the Tangeman University Center food court in the coming weeks.

The event will highlight the recent renovation to the space and the services and technologies available in both areas.

At the same time, we will hold a reception with remarks from Interim Provost Lawrence Johnson about Dean and University Librarian Xuemao Wang’s first semester with UC Libraries.

The STRC is a student-centered service area designed to provide instructional technology resources and services to assist students who require specific software or equipment to complete course assignments. The Adaptive Technologies Office offers a wide array of enhanced services for patrons with disabilities, such as adaptive equipment and book retrieval.

The Open House and Reception will include demos and a show-and-tell about the services and resources available in both the STRC and Adaptive Technologies Office. Refreshments and party favors will also be available. The event is free and open to all, so bring a friend.

The extended hours are:

  • Sun, Dec. 2: Noon-2am

  • Mon-Tues, Dec. 3-4: 7:45am-2am

  • Wed-Thurs, Dec. 5-6: 7:45am-11pm

  • Fri, Dec. 7: 7:45am-7pm

  • Sat, Dec. 8: 10am-7pm

  • Sun, Dec. 9: noon-2am

  • Mon-Tues, Dec. 10-11: 7:45am-2am

  • Wed-Thurs, Dec. 12-13: 7:45am-11pm

  • Fri, Dec. 14: 8am-6pm

UCit@Langsam, located on the 5th floor of Langsam Library, is always open 24/7.

Need a safe ride home after studying late in the library? NightRide will run 8pm-4am, December 2-14, making rounds to pick up students at the base of the Langsam/ERC steps on Woodside Drive. NightRide can be reached at 556-RIDE (or 556-1111 (Public Safety) 12am-4am Sunday- Wednesday, and 2am-4am, Thursday-Saturday).

In addition, the Woodside Drive/Library Garage has been designated a Safe Zone parking garage, which means that from December 2-14, those who enter the garage between the hours of 9pm to 5:59am can exit for $1.
