Library Services for UC Health Employees

Thanks to a recent agreement between UC Health and the University of Cincinnati, UC Health employees now have access to health sciences and research-level library collections and services through UC Libraries’ Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library.

To access library resources and services, UC Health employees need only to register online at http://guides.libraries.uc.edu/uchealth. This web site will also serve as UC Health employees’ gateway to the information resources and services provided by the Health Sciences Library and UC Libraries.

Tour the Health Sciences Library Subject Guide Home Page

Now there’s a direct link from the Health Sciences Library (HSL) web home page to the HSL Subject Guides home page.  Click on the Subject Guides link under Express Links in the middle of the HSL web home page.

The Health Sciences Library is transitioning the eResources (Electronic Resources) topics to a more user-friendly, robust CampusGuides interface.  As guides are created or transitioned, they will be added to the HSL Subject Guides home page.

Take a brief visual tour of the HSL Subject Guides home page to see the list of subject guides, see where to find other UC Libraries (UCL) guides, how to search the HSL or other UCL guides, and how to get help. Then go explore the guides for yourself!

The Winkler Center Celebrates National Archives Month!

October is American Archives Month! To celebrate, The Winkler Center presents new finding aids!

Charles Dair Aring Archival Collection: An internationally known neurologist, Dr. Aring began his career at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1919 at the age of 15 when he was hired as an “office boy” by Dean Bachmeyer. He graduated from the College of Medicine in 1929 and became the first resident to train in neuropsychiatry in Cincinnati. During his career, he formed two neurology departments, one at the University of California and the other at the University of Cincinnati where he served as professor and department chairman from 1948 to 1974.

Gunter Grupp Archival Collection: This collection focuses on the history of the University of Cincinnati Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics and its influential staff members from 1946 to 2008. Continue reading →

H. J. Heimlich Project: Finding Aid Now Available

Last Friday was an exciting day for us here at the Winkler Center because I finished the EAD encoding for the Henry J. Heimlich Archival Collection. This means that the finding aid, which went live this morning, can now be searched online and that the collection is open to researchers. The finding aid is, as its name would imply, a tool that researchers can use to find what they are looking for. In this case, it is a list of every series, sub-series and folder in the collection. We welcome you to come in and have a look at this valuable addition to our collections!

Cincinnati Birth and Death Records, 1865-1912: records added

Over 4000 records from two surname ranges missed in the original scanning project, Schoner-Schroeder and Tucker-Underheuser, have been added to the collection of birth and death records for the City of Cincinnati from 1865-1912.  This completed collection now contains over 528,000 individual records and is an important resource for genealogists, as well as researchers in public health and epidemiology.     Continue reading →

DynaMed™ is now available!  Created to use at the point-of-care by physicians for physicians and other health care professionals,  DynaMed is a clinical reference tool with clinically – organized summaries for more than 3,200 topics. DynaMed is updated daily and provides the latest content and resources with validity, relevance and convenience.

  • DynaMed is available from on and off campus

New HSL Campus Guide: Citation Analysis

 The Citation Analysis guide is available at http://guides.libraries.uc.edu/researchimpact. It provides information on citation analysis tools available at the HSL.

The guide includes information and instructions on how to find the following:

  • Citation counts for your research publications
  • Citation counts from patents
  • To see who’s citing you
  • The ranking or impact factor of a specific journal
  • To learn more about the H-index and other new indexes for calculating impact
  • Explanations of citation research concepts and terminology
  • More information on the rationale behind citation research
  • Information on altmetrics
  • Citation research tutorials for various databases

Instructions are provided for Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The guide also provides a list of important terms and their definitions and links to tutorials.
