UC faculty to focus on the theme “Security.”

The fall “Life of the Mind” lecture series will kick off Tuesday, September 18 from 3:30-5pm in the Russell C. Myers Alumni Center. “Life of the Mind” features interdisciplinary conversations with UC faculty around a one-word theme followed by audience Q&A and a reception with light refreshments.

Each quarter, there are two “Life of the Mind” sessions with three “thought provocateurs” contributing to each session. The fall “Life of the Mind” theme is “Security.”

At the September 18 event, three distinguished faculty members will address the theme from unique and diverse perspectives:

• Pamela Heaton, Associate Professor of Pharmacy, James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, “Prescription Medications: Safe, Too Safe, or Not Safe Enough?”
• Kathleen Ballman, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, College of Nursing, “The 3 C’s of Security: Confidence, Competence and Caring”
• Robin Engel, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice, College of      Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, “Enhancing Security through Crime Prevention: The Power of Repeats”

The second session in the series on “Security” will be held Tuesday, October 30 from 3:30-5pm and will feature:

• Richard Harknett, Associate Professor of Political Science, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences
• Henry Nasrallah, Professor of Psychiatry & Neuroscience, College of Medicine
• Adrian Parr, Associate Professor, Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, McMicken College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Architecture and Interior Design

“Life of the Mind” is free and open to the public and attracts a broad audience including UC students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as people from the community. “Life of the Mind” is co-sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Chair of the University Faculty, and the UC Libraries.

Al Early, CECH Library Head of Circulation, has created a display that showcases selected recent publications of CECH faculty.  Drawn from the Authors, Editors & Composers program presented by the University of Cincinnati Libraries, the display presents print copies of a sample of School of Education and School of Human Services works.

A new e-research guide for the Educational Studies program has been created.

Educational Studies is a new online research guide for students and faculty in the CECH educational studies program.  This guide provides a multidisciplinary collection of article databases, books, journals and other resources dealing with the psychological, philosophical, historical, sociological and anthropological foundations of education.
