University of Cincinnati Libraries Gift Policy
Gift Policy
The University of Cincinnati Libraries are highly selective when considering donations of books and other library materials because of space limitations. To be considered, gift materials must support the needs of the University or add depth or breadth to existing collections. In addition, they must be in good physical condition. For financial gifts such as bequests, endowments, and contributions please contact Peggy Wolf, Director of Development, by calling 556-0055 or visit http://www.libraries.uc.edu/information/giving/index.html
Ownership
If accepted, gifts become the property of the University upon receipt. The Libraries reserve the right to determine retention, location, cataloging treatment, and other considerations related to use, maintenance, or removal. Each gift is acknowledged with a letter and gift receipt.
Appraisal
Donors may be able to claim a tax deduction for gifts of books and other library materials. Because of legal restrictions, however, any arrangements for appraisals of the gift for income tax purposes must be made in advance by the donor. The Libraries are prohibited from placing a value on donated materials. A letter of acknowledgment will provide the donor with proof of the gift.
Contact
If you are considering a donation of materials to the Libraries, we encourage you to contact the Gifts Librarian via e-mail or telephone: Sharon Purtee, (513) 558-1019.
